Please contribute to the Virginia Trial Lawyers Foundation bike helmet fund so we can continue with our programs to help protect young Virginia bike riders!

Thanks to the financial support of VTLA members for over a decade, thousands of low-income students across Virginia have been given much needed helmets and learned from police and medical personnel how important it is to wear them. Our Bike Helmet Fund is almost depleted so we are looking for another boost! Please support this special program - it's quick and easy to make a give and every dollar helps!  Please give here.

Believe it or not, bills for the 2025 General Assembly are already being pre-filed; stay tuned for details on issues VTLA will be supporting, opposing and watching. In the meantime, we feel it’s important that we say thanks to the steady hand of Virginia’s leaders who constantly strive to improve life for our citizens while balancing the interests of Virginia businesses.

Virginia is fortunate to have a long history in both chambers and both parties who understand the importance of ensuring access to justice and safeguarding the right to trial by jury. Take a quick (and frightening) look at what our friends in other states are facing right now.

The Virginia Criminal Justice Conference (VCJC) held its annual meeting September 24-25 in Lynchburg and, as usual, had a very productive time together. Pictured above: VCJC expressed appreciation to Craig Cooley, one of the founding members of VCJC, who is stepping away from the Conference after 15 years.

The Family Law section was excited to have 125+ in attendance at it’s hybrid CLE last month in Richmond. Thanks to Tara Hatcher, Hatcher Baez PLC, for putting together a stellar lineup of topics and speakers for the day. Pictured here is the esteemed judges panel which included a mix of Circuit Court and JD&R judges from around the state. Thanks to all who participated and attended!

3 Week Course in November

The powerfully transformative practice of mindfulness meditation has been proven to reduce stress, control anxious thoughts, improve attention and promote overall psychological well-being. It is an approach to training the mind, similar to the way fitness is an approach to training the body.

Have you been curious about the benefits of mindfulness and how it might work for you? In this three-week beginner-friendly course, you will learn about the history and context of mindfulness meditation, the scientific research that supports its efficacy, how it relates to other types of meditation, and specific practices designed to enhance attention, presence, and intention. Each session will incorporate instruction, group discussion and guided practice.

This course is facilitated by our own, long-time VTLA member, Aubrey Ford, who is a Certified Mindfulness Mediation Teacher.

November 2, 9, 16 (Tuesdays) from 6:30 - 8:00pm virtual on Zoom

October 27 in Richmond (and virtual!)

Our October Advocacy CLE is less than two weeks away and there is much to learn & discuss. The start of the turbulent twenties brought unprecedented changes in providing access to justice. Not only has the pandemic upended trial schedules and the routine business of law, but certain legislative changes have created both confusion and opportunity. Heading into 2022, trial preparation will be more critical than ever before. Attend this seminar and walk away with a plan of action and insight into the uncharted territory ahead!
