VTLA participates as an amicus curiae before the appellate courts of the Commonwealth of Virginia and of the United States in cases where the following issues may be presented:

  • Issues of first impression of concern to the trial bar.
  • Statutory limitations on the amount of a citizen's recovery for injury to person or property.
  • Denial of the right to jury trial.
  • The admissibility of evidence.
  • The taking of property or deprivation of a right without due process of law.
  • A denial of equal protection of the law.
  • The application of statutory remedies as a bar to common law remedies.
