VTLA Bike Helmet Safety Program
Supported by the Virginia Trial Lawyers Foundation
VTLF supports a statewide Bicycle Helmet Safety Program, a program designed to present helmets and safety information to elementary school children. VTLA started the program many years ago for a number of reasons - first and foremost is giving back to our communities. Thanks to VTLA members, thousands of low-income students have been provided helmets and learned from police and medical personnel how important it is to wear them. As trial lawyers, many of you have been involved in personal injury cases and have seen head injuries and their devastating effects first hand.
Look at the facts:
- Each year, approximately 200 children under the age of 14 are killed in bike crashes.
- Each year, approximately 400,000 children under the age of 14 are treated in emergency rooms for bicycle-related injuries.
- Bike helmets have been shown to reduce the risk of head injury by 85%.
- Only 15% of all child cyclists nationwide wear helmets.
What can you do to help?
The Foundation is always in need of funds to purchase the bike helmets needed for the programs we do around the state. It's important that we keep enough funds available throughout the year for these important programs. Give online today - every dollar helps! Thank you for your support.

If you are interested in possibly hosting a bike helmet program in your local school, reach out to us at vtla@vtla.com for details.
