You need a business mindset if you operate a small law firm. It’s not easy, and legal expertise only takes you so far in the reality of daily workflow operations, staff supervision, and business strategy. Are you taking advantage of all the tools available to you? Are you running the business side of your practice most efficiently? Attend this special program designed especially for you! Learn more about the balance between running a successful firm and practicing law. You will get tips and learn strategies to excel in the business of law firm management. You will have plenty of opportunities to collaborate and exchange ideas and best practices with your peers.

Join us for our first retreat designed specifically for solo and small firms. Meet with your colleagues in a relaxed, informal atmosphere at the Geri Melchers Studio, in a lovely room next to a garden terrace situated on a ridge overlooking the Rappahannock River. This retreat is sure to become an annual event!

Who Should Attend: This program is for any attorney, regardless of experience or practice area, who currently is in solo practice or managing a small law firm.

This retreat, offered in-person only, is open to attorney members, one of the many benefits of VTLA membership, and is restricted to attorneys who do not represent insurance defense interests

CLE Certificate and Materials: 
Retreat materials, along with the CLE Certificate of Attendance, will be emailed to you 1-2 days prior to the retreat so that you may print any materials you wish to have with you. If you would like to access these materials while at the retreat, bring your laptop or tablet; no printed copies will be provided. Materials and certificates to any VTLA program you have registered for may be accessed in MyVTLA, located at the top of the VTLA website.

Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early and come to the VTLA registration table to check in.

Need overnight lodging? VTLA has a block of discounted rooms reserved at the nearby Courtyard by Marriott Fredericksburg Historic District, 620 Caroline Street, Fredericksburg VA, 22401. Our block expires September 25 30th! You can extend your stay a day early or a day later based on availability. The hotel is approximately 2.5 miles, or a 9-minute drive, to the Gari Melchers Studio.
