Seminar Chair: Tashina M. Gorgone, Maddox & Gerock, PC, Falls Church
6.0 hours CLE (1 hour ethics)
3.0 hours GAL CE

This year’s program will focus on the real-life implications of Virginia’s most recent legislative updates and judicial decisions as they relate to family law.  Following Yourko v. Yourko, what ethical obligations do attorneys have to amend prior marital settlement agreements that contain impermissible indemnification provisions per this Court of Appeals ruling? As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, how do courts rule when the parties disagree on whether to vaccinate their child, yet the parties share joint legal custody? How can parties effectively utilize third parties in the joint legal custody realm?

Join judges and family law practitioners from across the Commonwealth to explore these questions and more this fall, either in Richmond or online! For those attending in-person, onsite registration opens at 8:30, your registration fee includes lunch, and parking is free.

Why Attend? This is an opportunity to delve into the specifics of several major developing issues in Virginia family law and determine not just how they will impact your cases moving forward, but explore what obligations, if any, we have to our former clients based upon these changes.

Takeaways You will leave this seminar with tools to assist in crafting Marital Settlement Agreements and custody orders that combat the concerns of unenforceability raised by specific Court of Appeals decisions in the past year.
