Interested in serving on VTLA’s Board?

VTLA urges all interested members to consider running for a District Governor seat on our Board of Governors. VTLA has 13 Districts and 16 District Governor seats with the next one-year term of office beginning March 26, 2023.

To run for a District Governor seat, you must be a VTLA member in good standing and have your principal office within that District. The VTLA Districts and their current Governors are identified in the Directory of Members & Services, and in the petition linked here. The petition must be signed by three VTLA members and submitted to VTLA no later than December 29, 2022 for consideration.

VTLA’s Board is comprised of a number of groups:

  • Officers: elected by the Board following the convention

  • Governors at Large: recommended by the Nominating Committee and voted on by the membership at the Annual Convention

  • District Governors: Voted on by members in VTLA districts (when there is a contested seat, or appointed by the Nominating Committee when vacant)

  • Section Leaders: leaders in our substantive law sections as well as Young Trial Lawyers and Women’s Caucus

  • Past Presidents

  • Ex Officios: committee chairs who are not also serving in another role

Please contact Valerie O’Brien at VTLA, vobrien@vtla.com, 804-343-1143 if you have any questions about the election process or the responsibilities of a member of the Board of Governors.
