With VTLA’s annual convention this week and my term as president ending, I have been reflecting on the whirlwind that was this past year. Throughout all the traveling, meetings, and conversations with members, one thing has struck me: everyone involved with VTLA—staff and members—works hard to fulfill our mission of “promoting improvements to the administration of justice intended to enrich the quality of life for all Virginians and supporting the rule of law in the Commonwealth.”
Our legislative team continues to bring together members of both political parties to promote legislation that improves outcomes for our clients. Our cutting-edge education offerings are well-attended and the best in the business. Our listservs glitter with news of important victories secured for deserving clients. The VTL Foundation supports trial lawyers, law students, and the public through its bike helmet program, trial advocacy competitions, and scholarships. Members donate time, money, and expertise to support all those programs and more.
As we navigate the complexities of practicing law in today’s legal environment, I’m reminded of the vital role VTLA plays in promoting justice and upholding the rule of law. Your dedication to excellence and your commitment to action, even amid these shifting sands, forms the bedrock of our association's strength and influence. Leadership transitions, but VTLA’s mission endures. I look forward to many more years supporting VTLA’s important work and hope you will join me.
